1. What is Kinguin
Kinguin is an online marketplace for sellers and buyers from all around the world to trade their software. With more than 4 million customers around the world, I would say they are pretty legit and follow 100% compliance with international and local laws in every major jurisdiction.
As informed by Kinguin, they always test their serial keys and make sure they come with purchase records before selling online. Moreover, it really helps when they have a very responsive 24 hours live chat, so they can reply any queries at any time.
2. Legality of Buying Software from Kinguin
While it is completely legal to buy from Kinguin, some may question the source of the software sold on the marketplace.
The truth is, you will never really know where your serial key comes from.
While some sellers are genuinely selling used version of the software, there are stories that hackers are selling software purchased with stolen credit cards.
Aside from the morality of it, there is no problem with the software. We have been using these software over the years and we didn’t have any problems.
3. Buyer Protection Program
While most of the sellers have good reviews on Kinguin, there could be a chance that the serial key doesn’t work due to various reasons.
For an additional €5 (S$8) more, you will be protected against any faults of the purchased product. If you don’t buy the insurance, you will have to be 100% responsible for any potential issues that may arise.
We are not saying you should not buy the buyer protection program, but we just like to take our chances. So far, we have been pretty lucky.
4. Our Purchase Experiences
Our last purchase from Kinguin is in September 2022.
We bought Windows 10 at €21.64 (est. sgd 30.80) and managed to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
We did have some problems registering it so we contacted Microsoft support directly. Through their phone call support, we managed to get it registered to our name.
Just make sure you are buying the version that can be activated in the country you are residing.
Here is the link of the Windows 10 we bought.
5. Secret Kinguin Hack
One hack we chanced upon is buying Student Edition Microsoft Office which is 20% cheaper than the standard edition.
You might ask, must I be a student to buy the Student Edition?
The answer is yes, only if you are buying from Microsoft directly. You will need to submit supporting documents to Microsoft to prove that you are a student. However, in our case, since you are buying from a reseller on Kinguin, you wont have to submit any documents.
6. 12 Months Later
Throughout the years, we have bought various Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016 and even Steam games such as NBA2K21 and they have been working flawless ever since.
We even managed to get the Microsoft team live chat support when we needed help to re-format our laptop to install a fresh copy of Windows 10.
We hope this review really helps you to save some money if you are desperate for a budget Windows solution.
